I’m not sure salary level is the right thing to focus on. I agree it’s important, but job satisfaction is, I’d argue, more important. For example, I know I don’t get paid in my current, academic job as much as I could get paid working at tech company, but I love what I do, and, for me, the value of doing what I love outweighs the salary I’m missing out on.
